Every wedding, no matter how small, needs flowers. Every bride, no matter what kind of dress, needs flowers. One cannot even imagine wedding pictures without flowers. The important thing is that you find a florist that can carry through the theme at a price you can afford.

Be sure that the florist you select knows what he's doing and has done the flowers for weddings that you like. Talk with the owner or store manager. Look at pictures from wedding publications and get some ideas about bouquets you like and give them to the florist or ask to see the pictures that he/she has of weddings completed in order to become more acquainted with his/her work.
Share your color scheme with him/her as well as the size, style and setting for your wedding. Give them the name of the caterer and the photographer.
Get an idea of what flowers are best suited to those perimeters and work with him/her to develop a budget. If you have a budget in mind, be sure that it is large enough to cover your floral needs.
Create a list of must have flowers first. The immediate wedding party, the mothers and grandmothers are your most immediate concern. Depending on the setting and size of the wedding, there may be a need for flowers in a church, synagogue, hotel, banquet room or catering hall. In many cases some of these flowers can then be used at the reception. Certain varieties of flowers, like some of those from the mum family, make a bold statement and are less expensive, thus saving the more expensive flowers for the bridal bouquets. The going away corsage can be incorporated in the center of the brides bouquet which saves a little bit of money but more importantly lets the bride keep a piece of her bouquet after she throws it.
Don't forget to ask about the decorations for the cake table, the toasting glasses, cake knife and server. Decide if they are to be the responsibility of the florist or the caterer, as they are a must. Ask about aisle ribbons, an aisle runner and a bouquet for the table with the guest book. There is a charge for these but they add a great deal to the overall beauty of the wedding.
A centerpiece for the bridal table is the minimum but some kind of table decoration should be on every table. In the case of a buffet, the buffet table should be decorated too, so decide if it's the caterers' job or that of the florist. The florist may be able to decorate some of the reception area with flowers from the church. Be sure he/she is familiar with the site of the wedding and reception prior to signing the contract.
Pay attention to the delivery capability of the florist for the day of your wedding and be sure that the manager or owner will handle any problems that might arise. Depending on where the wedding is and at what time of year, it is also important to choose a florist that can handle heat, snow or freezing temperatures if it becomes an issue. You should know how many weddings, parties etc. have been scheduled for that day so that you are assured of delivery on time. Also be sure that someone from the shop will be there to help you with the bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages.
Ask about the deposit and the cancellation policy.
Read the contract carefully to be sure that all the items you discussed are addressed.
